Food waste and glass for Clerkenwell restaurants, flexible collections for studios and agencies, and recycling set up for the new offices around Farringdon station. We cover the City and Islington parts of EC1.

Working in EC1
EC1 is less corporate than the rest of the City. Clerkenwell is full of restaurants, bars, design studios and agencies, many of them small teams in converted warehouses. Smithfield has its market and the businesses that grew up around it. And since the Elizabeth line arrived at Farringdon, new office buildings have gone up around the station.
That gives a very different waste profile. Restaurants need food waste and glass collected often. Studios need small, flexible collections and the occasional big clear-out when they move. New offices need recycling set up properly from the day they open.
Much of EC1 is not in the City of London at all. Smithfield, the Barbican side and the Golden Lane Estate are in the City, but most of Clerkenwell, Exmouth Market and the streets towards Old Street are in Islington, and Hatton Garden is in Camden.
Each council sets its own rules for when trade waste can be put out and where vehicles can stop. We check which side of the boundary your address is on and work to the right rules. You get the same service and the same paperwork either way.

FAQ
Most of Clerkenwell is in Islington, while Smithfield and Golden Lane are in the City. It matters for the local rules on putting trade waste out and on stopping to load, so we check your address and work to the right council’s rules. We cover both.
Workplaces with fewer than 10 full-time-equivalent staff must comply from 31 March 2027. Workplaces with 10 or more have had to since 31 March 2025. We can set up separate recycling and food waste now so you’re ready.
Often enough that it never smells or attracts pests. That depends on your covers and storage space, so we agree the frequency with you when we quote. See restaurant waste collection.
