Fly-tipping on your land

If it’s dumped on your land, clearing it is down to you

When waste is fly-tipped on private land, the landowner is responsible for removing it and for disposing of it legally. Leave it and it tends to attract more. Report it to the council too, as it helps them build a picture of who is dumping where.

Handing it to an unregistered carrier can put you in breach of your own duty of care. We load it, take it to licensed facilities and give you a waste transfer note for the record.

  • Photos before and afterUseful for your records, insurers or the council, and for showing the site is clear.
  • Sorted as we loadMetal, wood, rubble and green waste are kept apart so more can be recycled.
  • Hazards flagged, not handledSuspected asbestos, chemicals or needles are left in place and referred to a licensed specialist.

What we don’t take

We don’t remove asbestos, chemicals, gas cylinders or clinical waste. Fly-tipped sites sometimes contain them. If we find anything we suspect is hazardous, we leave it untouched, tell you, and refer you to a licensed specialist. We carry on with the rest of the site.

Your duty of care, in plain English

Every business that produces waste has a legal duty of care: store it securely, hand it only to a registered waste carrier, and record the transfer with a waste transfer note describing what the waste is. Keep those notes for at least two years.

We give you a waste transfer note for every job. Our guide to waste transfer notes explains what one should contain and what to do if a supplier can’t produce one.

FAQ

Questions we get asked

Who is responsible for fly-tipping on private land?

The landowner. You are responsible for having it removed and disposed of legally, using a registered waste carrier. Report the fly-tipping to the local council as well.

How do you price a site clearance?

By the volume and type of waste, how much cutting back is needed and how easy it is to get a vehicle close. Photos or a site visit let us give you a firm written price.

Can you clear a site before building work starts?

Yes. We clear surface rubbish, overgrowth and debris so surveyors, ground investigation teams and contractors can get on site.

What if there’s asbestos on the site?

We don’t remove it. If we suspect asbestos, we stop, leave it undisturbed and refer you to a licensed specialist.

Do you work outside the City of London?

Our core area is the City, EC1 to EC4, and the streets around it. Site clearances are often further out, so tell us where the site is and we’ll let you know straight away.
